Our School Physical Education Department focuses on unity and discipline. The playground of our school which is spread over an area of 8 acres helps our students to develop their confidence and competence as they are able to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their life. Students are given knowledge to focus on physical fitness which helps the growth of the body and mind.

Major Games:

Our School provides spacious playfields for Football, Volleyball, Basket ball, Kabaddi, Handball and Ball Badminton. Our students’ most favourite game is football and they show immense interest in it. Every year, the football team elevates the school by emerging as the district or divisional level winner and  for participation in the state level competition.

 Track and Field Events:

The most common Track and Field events in our School are Running, Jumping and Throwing. Students are selected from their respective classes based on their performance. The selected students are categorised and given special coaching. Every year, we conduct “Annual Sports Meet” and the winners are given rigorous training and they are motivated to take part in the District, Divisional and State level competitions. Every year our athletes represent our School in Discus throw and Shotput events in the State level competitions and bring laurels to our school.

Indoor Games:

Taking part in Indoor Games is a stress buster. It is an activity which helps and keeps our students healthy when they are learning for long. These Indoor games are their rescue which they eagerly look forward. In our School, students are motivated and encouraged to take part in Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom.

Martial Arts:

Martial Arts are combats which are practiced and trained in our school for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual development of our students. Through systematic practice in the Martial arts, a student’s physical fitness may be boosted as the whole body is exercised and the entire muscular system is activated. The students can improve their strength, stamina, speed, flexibility, movement, co-ordination etc., through this martial arts training.

Taekwondo, Judo, Karate and Silambam are focused in our school and some of our students have taken part in National level competitions and brought glorious victories to our school.

Gymnastics:

Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, co-ordination and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest and abdominal muscle groups. The students are able to improve their alertness, precision, courage, self confidence and self discipline by undergoing the different levels of training in gymnastics. Some of our gymnasts have broughstate level victories to our school.

Weight Lifting:

Weight training is a common type of strength training for developing the strength and size of skeletal muscles. Due to this practice, new bone cells are formed and the bones become stronger and denser. It improves strength and endurance.Meticulous training is given to our students in weight lifting and power lifting with the guidance of special coaches and as a result, our students are able to compete in National level competitions and win several awards and medals.

Fencing and Cycling:

Fencing is an organised sport involving the use of a sword for attack and defense according to set movements and rules. A fencer must touch his opponent in an approved target zone of the body to register a point. The target is changed depending on the weapon used.

Cycling provides a variety of health benefits. Individuals who cycle regularly have reported mental health improvement including less perceived stress and better vitality. Most of our students show great interest towards Fencing and Cycling.

Yoga, Asanas and Meditation:

Yoga,  Asanas are considered as a preventive measure for various kinds of health problems like obesity, diabetes, asthma, hypertension and backpain. Our Physical Education Department creates awareness among the students about the benefits of yoga and trains them to learn several asanas inorder to maintain a healthy body and mind.

Obesity:

Vajrasana, Hastasana, Trikonasana, Ardu Matsyendrasana

Diabetes:

Bhujangasana, Paschimottasana, Pavan Muktasana, Ardh Matsyendrasana.

Asthma:

Sukhasana, Chakrasana, Gomukhasana, Parvatasana, Bhujangasana, Paschimottasana, Matsyasana,

Hypertension:

Tadasana, Vajrasana, Pavan Muktasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Bhujangasana, Shavasana.

Back Pain:

Tadasana, Ardh Matsyendrasana, Vakrasana, Shalabhasana, Bhujangasana.

Meditation reduces stress and controls anxiety. The emotional health of our students is promoted and self-awareness is enhanced through meditation. Through yoga asanas and meditation, self-discipline, positive mood and outlook have been developed among our students to a great extent.

Mass Drill:

Mass Drill is an activity that practices a particular skill and often involves repeating the same thing several times. In our School, these mass drills are used to instill a sense of discipline among the students.

First Aid:

First Aid kit is always available in our school and immediate assistance is given to students suffering from either a minor or a serious injury. Instant care is given to prevent the condition from worsening and to promote recovery.

Road Safety Awareness:

Students are insisted to cross the road safely. They are given awareness about road safety and the need to learn road etiquettes.

Nutrition and Dietetics:

The Department provides direction to the students to lead a healthy living with good and nutritious food habits.

Dietetics is the science of how food and nutrition affects human health. General nutrition education is given to our students so that they can lead a happy and healthy life. 

 

Rev.Fr.Joe Lawrence Memorial Football Tournament:

You cannot win unless you learn how to lose.

In order to remember Rev.Fr.Joe Lawrence S.J and his memorable service to the society, a knock out football tournament is conducted in our school every year. Football teams from various schools are invited and the tournament is held in a single venue. It becomes more significant that our students are motivated towards football their dream game and they develop a positive attitude.

Placements:

Based on the performance and achievements of our students, many sportsman and athletes were offered placements in Indian Army, Navy, Police Department, Railway Department and in various banks. This helps our department to motivate the students so that they can concentrate more on sports and games.

The Physical Education Department of our School has trained and taught unity, discipline, affection, versatility and adversity through sports. The department aims at an all round development of the students by shaping their character and personality to perform well in future.
